Age at invitation

Your age on the day you are invited to apply, not at EOI lodgement. [Reg 2.26AC]

English language

IELTS scores stated; equivalent PTE / TOEFL iBT / OET / Cambridge accepted. Native-equivalent passports (UK/IE/US/CA/NZ) do not auto-qualify for points — you still need to test. [Reg 2.26AC + LIN 19/051]

Skilled employment — outside Australia

In nominated or closely related occupation. Counted in last 10 years. Must be skilled-level (i.e. post skills assessment). [Reg 2.26AC]

Skilled employment — inside Australia

Lawful skilled work in Australia, counted in last 10 years. Caps at 8+ years. [Reg 2.26AC]

Highest qualification

Must be recognised under skills assessment or by the relevant assessing authority. Take the highest, not cumulative. [Reg 2.26AC]

Australian study requirement

≥ 92 weeks of full-time CRICOS study, courses delivered in English, qualification awarded from an Australian institution. [Reg 1.15F]

Specialist STEM qualification

Master by research or Doctorate in Natural / Physical Sciences, Information Technology, or Engineering completed in Australia. [Reg 2.26AC]

Community language credential

Current NAATI CCL (Credentialled Community Language) certification. [Reg 2.26AC]

Partner skills

Single applicants and applicants with Australian-citizen / PR partners earn the same 10 points. Otherwise depends on partner skill assessment + English. [Reg 2.26AC + IMMI 18/038]

Professional Year

12-month accredited Professional Year program (PY) — currently accountants, engineers, IT. [Reg 2.26AC]

Australian regional study

≥ 2 academic years study completed at a campus in a designated regional area. [Reg 2.26AC]

State / territory boost (190 / 491 only)

Only applies if you are invited under a 190 (state nomination) or 491 (regional nomination / eligible relative). Does not count for 189. [Migration Act s 93(1)(a)]
